Black Panthers

Black Panthers, 1968

Filmed in 1968 Oakland, California, Agnès Varda’s Black Panthers documents the Black Power movement and the efforts made to free incarcerated political activist Huey Newton. As a non-POC director, Varda demonstrates an awareness of her relative privilege by taking a back seat, and allowing the story to be told by uncut interviews and poignant speeches. Educating its viewers on one of Black history’s most significant moments, Black Panthers is a beautiful film.

The renowned Saatchi Gallery is offering artists and creatives across the world the opportunity to feature their work on the gallery’s social-media platforms by hashtagging #SaatchiTakeover. It isn’t often that the notoriously exclusive art world opens its doors with the slogan “Open to everyone, everywhere” but now, by aligning your creations to the weekly inspiration themes (previous examples include ‘Shadows’ and ‘Cartography’), you might just have the chance to get your foot in the door.
