Leather is indisputably tough, but it’s more than durability that sets Smythson’s utilitarian luxury and craftsmanship apart from the rest. From considered palettes to a whole new product range, Luc Goidadin’s timely entrance marks an unexpected shift in the system.

“Marigold” has been said to stand for passion and creativity, according to an online source. Another internet frequenter called it the “herb of the sun,” which makes me think of vegan eggs submerged in parsley. Now that Luc Goidadin has been appointed Creative Director of Smythson, soft shapes abound in a nuanced palette of botanical and mineral shades—marigold smooth leather being the collection’s pièce de resistance and a glowing signifier of new structures.
