Act I, scene 2: the deceptively tough dame, the misunderstood temptress, the guarded, vulnerable underworld lily who provokes hot-headed desire, even a tinge of jealousy. Enter screen left: someone to watch over her… The plot twist will blow your mind.

The dragon lady reigns the streets of Hannam-dong (한남동). Knife-sharp suede knee-highs skim her MaxMara skirt suit, the click-clack of conical heels announcing her arrival. In her left hand, a black leather box clutch, also by Charles & Keith, the thin silver strap snaking around her wrist so it hangs by her waist. She has a quiet, compelling magnetism, a sort of Maggie Cheung (In the Mood for Love, 2000) aura fortified with the all-knowing gaze of a Qing dynasty empress.

Bona fide screen dream Molly Chiang inhabits that heroine – just switch out the Sin City moll for globetrotting dealer in charisma and fashion influence. With a billowing cumulus of social media followers, and collaborators including Bobbi Brown, H&M and Fendi, she does Taiwan proud creating immersive digital content during fashion weeks in NYC, London, Paris, Milan, Shanghai and Seoul.

Her brand of happy savvy sells out everything it touches; Molly knows everything about being watched and followed. What we love is her down-to-earth approach to her work, her intro/extro warmth and composure, and her encyclopaedic knowledge of food by postcode. It was over a hotpot that CUBICLE x Molly Chiang first got storyboarded – thanks for the tip about butter in the rice, Molly.
